The Georgia Museum of Natural History at the University of Georgia hosted its annual fund-raising reception and program on Friday, March 1, 2002. The event was held at the Conservatory at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, beginning at 6:30 pm. The reception was catered by Gourmet to Go.

The annual Celebration party is our way of marking our progress. Each year the Museum highlights one of the 12 affiliated natural history collections. This year the Museum focused on the Archaeology Collection.

A program entitled "Masterpieces of Aboriginal Art from the Archaeology Collection" was offered by Dr. David J. Hally, Curator of the Department of Anthropology's Archaeology Collection. Dr. Hally discussed some of the most beautiful and finely-crafted artifacts in the Archaeology Collection. Many of the artifacts included in the program were from the King Site, a mid-16th century town near Rome. The slides of the artifacts were taken by Gordon L. Hight in the mid-1970s. Archaeological artifacts were on display. Music was provided by John Winterhawk, spiritual leader affiliated with the Y'ufala Muscogee Creek Tribe, accompanied by Joey Pierce, Deborah Cooper, and Anne-Marie Winterhawk, vocal and drums.

Two major projects were supported by Celebration III. The first was the proposed Museum Mobile, which is being designed to transport exhibits based to Georgia communities. The Museum Mobile funds raised by Celebration III will help develop this concept further. The second project supported by Celebration III is a Collection Endowment Fund.
