1a) Tours may be scheduled for a single collection or,
if it can be coordinated, a combination of collections.
-
The museum will not conduct tours for unexpected
groups.
-
Reservations should be made at least 2-4 weeks in
advance.
-
Maximum group size in the museum at any one time
is normally restricted to 40 students for "combination tours".
Single collection tours are normally restricted to 20 students.
4a) If a class/group has 40 children, it will need to
be divided in half. Each half will rotate through the different collection
areas separately. Teachers/group leaders should expect and prepare
for this by having their class/group divided before they enter the
building.
4b) Teachers/groups leaders with groups larger than
40 should contact Fran Lane at the University of Georgia Visitor Center
to arrange a coordinated tour of multiple UGA sites.
-
The museum suggests that groups have 1 chaperone
per 5 students.
-
Teachers/chaperones are expected to monitor their
students while in the museum. Most items in the museum can not be
handled. Children are not allowed to touch items unless instructed
otherwise.
-
Children in elementary grades are strongly encouraged
to wear nametags while on the museum tour. If possible, teachers
should provide these before the students arrive at the museum.
-
Tours will only be conducted when the classroom
is available.
-
Due to time constraints, if a group is 20 minutes
late or more, the tour will be cancelled.
9a) Classes/groups that anticipate being late because
they are lost, buses were late, etc. should contact the museum. We
will try to avoid canceling the tour by alerting museum staff to the
situation. However, if museum staff have other obligations that day,
cancellation may be inevitable depending on how late the group will
be.
-
Due to space limitation, the museum can only conduct
tours for one group at a time. Tours reservations will be taken
on a first come first serve basis.
-
The museum highly recommends that teachers/group
leaders that have never visited the museum plan to visit the museum
prior to their scheduled tour in order to locate the museum building
and also to determine if the tour option we provide is appropriate
for their needs. This prior visit might take 10-30 minutes.
-
The museum tour will last approximately 1 hour.
-
Upon arriving at the museum, one adult should enter
the museum to announce their group. He/she will then meet with museum
staff and be instructed what to do next.
-
The GMNH has the right to turn down any group for
a tour depending on schedules, work loads, etc.
-
Failure to comply with the above policies and procedures
may result in the loss of tour privileges.
