Compare these pictures to the butterfly pictues. See how the moth's colors are duller? Except for the hummingbird moth (isn't that one neat?), they aren't very fancy at all. Another way to tell the difference between a moth and a butterfly is that moth antennae are usually feathery, not long and slender. Moths are also more active at night.
