Cuculiformes
Order Description
The number of families in the Order Cuculiformes is in dispute; there are close to 150 species. In Georgia, one family and three species have been reported.
These birds, mostly cuckoos, have zygodactyl feet (two toes point forward and two toes back). Most cuckoos are slender and long-tailed with an insectivorous diet. The young are generally altricial.
Species in this family:
Black-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus erythropthalmus)
Smooth-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani)
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus)
